AGE-IN-PLACE ADDITION, WEST ROXBURY

This AGE-IN-PLACE Addition in West Roxbury provides accessibility, durability and energy-efficiency for its longtime residents. The principal goal was to add an accessible primary suite + laundry, while also creating a safer and more efficient way into the house.

The new circulation pattern was achieved by relocating the exterior stairs to directly connect to the driveway…the main path into the house. The new stairs have integrated lighting and a gentle rise-to-run ratio for easier ascending and descending.

The scope of work also included removing the old aluminum siding, adding continuous thermal insulation to the exterior, dense-pack cellulose to the wall and roof cavities, new cedar siding and trim, and high-performance windows and doors.

We achieved the goals of age-in-place living, while also being sensitive to the scale and character of this post-war neighborhood in Boston.
