WHOLE HOUSE RENOVATION, CAMBRIDGEPORT
Located in Cambridge MA, this whole house renovation repaired, restored and improved a historic home for its new stewards - a young growing family.
The house enfronts historic Dana Square Park (est. 1856), which is a vibrant local park of mature greenery and neighborhood playfulness. Referencing archival photos, the exterior facade was repaired, restored and preserved, while at the same time modernized with a high-performing building envelope (robust weather-proofing, windows, insulation, etc). New rear fenestration was designed to create visual and physical connections to the outdoors on this very tight site.
The kitchen was a primary goal in this whole house renovation project. Function is first and foremost in our kitchen design layout. A material palette of warm wood tones (teak), natural stone (black pearl granite), and lighting (daylight and electric), created a bright, cozy space for family cooking and noshing.
A new primary bathroom was created by in-filling an old, defunct dressing closet. An existing plaster archway was preserved and enclosed with a custom steel and glass wall, which along with marble tile (white and black), give this space a chic, cosmopolitan vibe overlooking the park.
